A D2C marketing calendar is a list of the festivals and sale moments your brand will sell around, with a date to start planning and a date to start shooting for each one. Most festive campaigns don't fail on the idea. They fail because the brief went out in September and the shoot slipped into October.
This post gives you the 2027 dates that matter for Indian D2C brands in skincare, cosmetics, perfume, jewellery, fashion and bags, and the lead time we suggest for each. Dates were checked on 3 November 2026 against the central government's 2027 holiday list (DoPT order of 16 July 2026) and Drik Panchang.
Why do festive campaigns always end up late?
Because the work starts when the festival feels close, not when production needs it to. A festive campaign has a long chain behind it: offer and margin sign-off, stock, packaging, a shoot, edits, creator briefs, ad approvals and store changes. Each step waits on the one before.
The fix is to work backwards from the festival. Diwali 2027 is on 29 October, so the campaign goes live around Navratri, content is ready in September, the shoot happens in August and the brief is signed off in July. That's how our social media management team plans festive months for brands, and it's the rule behind the table below.
[!note] Many Indian festivals follow the lunar calendar, so dates can shift by a day between regions and panchangs. Eid depends on the sighting of the moon. Treat the dates below as your planning anchors and reconfirm the week before.

"Start shooting" is our suggested lead time, not a rule. Big launches need more; a reels-only push needs less. Copy the table into a Google Sheet, drop what doesn't fit your category and add an owner for each row.
What should you plan and when?
Plan in four layers, each with its own start date.
- Offer and stock (8–12 weeks before). Decide the hero products, bundles and discount. Check margins after GST, shipping, payment fees and likely RTO on COD orders. Confirm stock and packaging.
- Content production (6–8 weeks before). Shoot product, lifestyle and festive scenes in one go. Plan reels, statics, ad cuts and product page images from the same shoot. Our content production team builds one shot list for all of these.
- Creators and UGC (5–8 weeks before). Brief creators early. Good creators get booked for festive months, and their content needs time for review and edits.
- Ads and store (2–4 weeks before). Load creative, test hooks, set up festive landing pages and prepaid offers on UPI, and set delivery cut-off messages. Our performance marketing team starts testing festive creative before peak days, so the best ads are already known when budgets go up.
Our guide to planning a multi-platform content calendar shows how to turn these layers into weekly posts across Instagram, YouTube and your website.
Which festivals matter most for your category?
Pick three or four big moments a year; treat the rest as lighter social posts.
- Skincare and cosmetics: Holi (before-and-after care), Karwa Chauth and Diwali (festive makeup), wedding season in winter.
- Jewellery: Raksha Bandhan, Dhanteras, Diwali, Valentine's Day and wedding season.
- Perfume: Valentine's Day, Eid, Diwali gifting and Father's Day.
- Fashion and clothing: Navratri, Durga Puja, Diwali, Eid and end-of-season sales.
- Bags: Diwali gifting, Father's Day, back-to-college months and year-end travel.
Festive marketing ideas that are easy to plan early
These can be briefed months ahead because they don't depend on trends.
- Gift guides by budget. "Under ₹999", "Under ₹1,999", shot as flat lays and carousels.
- Ready-to-gift bundles. Shoot the box once; reuse it for Rakhi, Diwali and Christmas with a new sleeve.
- Countdown content. "10 days to Diwali" posts with one product or tip per day.
- Creator "get ready with me" reels. Brief the look, the products and what creators must not claim.
- Delivery cut-off posts. "Order by this date for Diwali delivery" reduces support messages and late orders.
- Prepaid nudges. A small UPI or prepaid perk during festive weeks can help with COD returns. See our post on cutting COD and RTO.
Diwali marketing ideas: a 2027 timeline
For Diwali on 29 October 2027, we'd work backwards like this:
- June: pick hero products and gift sets; agree the offer.
- July: sign off the brief, book creators and the studio.
- August: shoot. One shoot day can cover product, lifestyle, festive and gifting looks if the shot list is tight. Use our video production checklist to plan it.
- Early September: edits, captions, ad cuts and store updates done.
- Mid to late September: start warming up audiences with teasers and early-access lists, before marketplace sales and Navratri get busy.
- 30 September to 31 October: live campaign, with fresh creative each week and a clear cut-off for delivery before Diwali and Bhai Dooj.
FAQs
What is a D2C marketing calendar?
A yearly plan of the festivals, sales and launches your brand markets around, with dates to plan, shoot and go live for each, worked backwards from the festival.
When is Diwali in 2027?
Diwali falls on Friday, 29 October 2027, per the central government's 2027 holiday list. Dhanteras is on 27 October and Bhai Dooj on 31 October. Checked on 3 November 2026.
How early should D2C brands start planning festive campaigns?
We suggest 10–12 weeks before the first big day. For 2027, that means locking the Diwali plan in June or July and shooting in August, because the campaign needs to be live by Navratri on 30 September.
When do the big marketplace festive sales happen?
They usually start in late September or early October, before Navratri. Exact dates are announced by each marketplace closer to the time, so plan your offers for that window and confirm once the dates are out.
Which festive campaigns should a small D2C brand focus on?
Pick three or four moments that match your category and buyers, such as Raksha Bandhan, Navratri and Diwali for jewellery or Holi and Diwali for skincare. Run lighter social posts for the rest.
If you want your 2027 festive calendar planned and run across shoots, creators and social, see our social media management service or get in touch.
