No Sales on Shopify? 15 Fixes to Check First

No sales on Shopify? Find out if it's traffic, intent or conversion, then work through 15 fixes for product pages, trust, checkout, speed and tracking.

If your Shopify store has no sales, the cause is almost always one of three things: the wrong people are visiting, the right people aren't convinced, or something in the checkout is stopping them. Shopify's own analytics can tell you which one within a few minutes. Once you know where people drop off, you can fix that step instead of redesigning everything or doubling your ad budget.

This guide gives you a quick triage first, then 15 fixes in the order we check them when a D2C brand asks us why their store isn't converting. Most of them you can do yourself. If you'd rather have a team audit and fix the store, that's what our Shopify development service does.

First, find where people drop off

Open Shopify analytics and look at the conversion funnel for the last 30 days. It shows four numbers that matter:

  1. Sessions: how many visits the store got.
  2. Added to cart: how many sessions added at least one product.
  3. Reached checkout: how many started the checkout.
  4. Completed purchase: how many paid, or placed a COD order.

Then read it the way a doctor reads a report:

Where it breaks What it usually means Start with fixes
Very few sessions A traffic problem, not a store problem 1–2
Sessions, but almost no add-to-cart The product page isn't convincing 3–7
Add-to-cart, but few reach checkout Surprise costs or doubts in the cart 8–10
Checkout started, few complete Payment, COD or form friction 10–12
Numbers look fine but ads report no sales Tracking is broken 15

We'd skip anything else before skipping this. A better product page won't help if nobody's arriving, and more traffic won't help if the checkout's broken.

Traffic quality

1. Check who you're actually attracting

Look at where sessions come from: ads, Instagram, Google, direct. A store getting lots of visits from broad, cheap traffic (wrong cities, wrong age groups, accidental clicks) can look busy and still sell nothing. If you're running Meta ads, check that the campaign is optimising for purchases, not link clicks or landing page views. Click-optimised campaigns find people who click, not people who buy.

2. Make sure the ad and the page tell the same story

If the ad shows a serum at a festive price and the visitor lands on your homepage with a different offer, they leave. Send each ad to the page it promises, usually the product page, with the same product, price and offer visible above the fold. Our guide to ROAS and break-even ROAS explains how to tell whether that traffic can ever be profitable.

Product page

3. Show the product properly

Shoppers can't touch the product, so the photos do the selling. You need a clean hero image, close-ups of texture or material, the product in use, and the product in hand or on a person for scale. For beauty brands, texture shots and swatches matter more than anything; our skincare industry page shows the kind of content that works. If your photos came from the factory or a phone on a kitchen table, a proper product shoot is often the single biggest fix.

4. Add a short product video

A 15–30 second clip of the product being used answers questions photos can't: how a cream spreads, how a bag opens, how a fabric moves. Read why every D2C brand needs product videos for the formats that matter most by category.

5. Answer the questions people ask on WhatsApp

Every question your team answers on WhatsApp or DM is a question the page should answer: size, shade, ingredients, skin type, how long it lasts, what's in the box. Put the answers in short sections or an FAQ on the page itself.

6. Make the price feel clear and fair

Show the final price, including GST, on the product page. Indian shoppers expect MRP-style, all-inclusive pricing. If you're running an offer, show the original and offer price clearly and say when the offer ends, but only if it really ends.

7. Give a reason to buy now, honestly

Bundles, a free gift above a cart value, or a launch price can all help. Fake countdown timers and "only 2 left" messages that never change don't; people notice, and it costs you trust.

Trust

8. Show that real people buy from you

Reviews with photos, a clear returns policy, a working contact number or WhatsApp button, and an About page with a real founder story all reduce the "is this legit?" doubt. If you don't have reviews yet, send products to a few customers or creators and ask what they think. Our post on barter collaborations explains how to do that properly.

9. Be clear about delivery

"When will I get it?" is one of the biggest reasons people hesitate. Add a PIN code checker that shows the expected delivery date, and state your shipping and return policy in plain words near the Add to Cart button.

Checkout and payments

10. Remove shipping-cost surprises

Unexpected shipping charges at checkout are a classic reason for cart abandonment. Either include shipping in the price, offer free shipping above a clear threshold, or show the shipping cost on the product page and in the cart, before checkout.

11. Offer the payment methods Indian shoppers use

UPI, cards, net banking and wallets should all be available, and the payment step should work smoothly on mobile. Test it yourself on a basic Android phone with mobile data, not just on office Wi-Fi.

12. Get COD right

Plenty of first-time buyers won't order without cash on delivery. Switch COD off and sales can drop; leave it wide open and returned orders (RTO) creep up. The middle path we usually suggest: keep COD, add a small COD fee or a prepaid discount to nudge people towards UPI, and confirm COD orders on WhatsApp before shipping.

13. Don't force account creation

Let people check out as guests with a phone number. Forcing them to create an account and verify an email before paying is friction you don't need.

Speed and mobile

14. Make the mobile store fast

Most of your visitors are on phones, often on mobile data. Heavy uncompressed images, too many apps and autoplay videos slow the store down. Remove apps you don't use, compress images, and test your key pages with Google's PageSpeed Insights. Fix the product page and checkout first.

Tracking

15. Make sure your ads can see purchases

If Shopify shows orders but Meta Ads Manager shows none (or the other way round), your tracking is broken, and the ad platform can't learn who buys. Set up the Meta Pixel and the Conversions API through Shopify's official channel connection, check that the Purchase event fires once per order, and confirm that the order values match. Until this works, you're optimising blind. Our performance marketing service always starts with this check.

When to get help

Work through the triage and the fixes that match your funnel. Change one thing at a time and give it a week or two of traffic before you judge it. If the store still isn't converting, or you don't have the time, a structured audit is usually faster than guessing.

FAQs

Why is my Shopify store getting visitors but no sales?

Usually it's one of three things: the visitors aren't your buyers, the product page doesn't convince them, or the checkout has friction such as surprise shipping costs or missing payment options. Check the conversion funnel in Shopify analytics to see which step breaks.

What is a good conversion rate for a Shopify store?

It varies a lot by category, price, traffic source and season, so there's no single number worth chasing. Compare your store with its own past performance and look at each funnel step separately.

Does turning off COD reduce sales?

For many Indian D2C brands, yes, especially with first-time buyers. Instead of switching COD off, try prepaid discounts, a small COD fee and order confirmation on WhatsApp to reduce returned orders.

How long does it take to see results from conversion fixes?

Some fixes, like clearer shipping costs or a working payment method, can show up within days. Others, like new product photos or reviews, take a few weeks of traffic to judge fairly.

Should I redesign my whole Shopify store?

Rarely as a first step. Find where people drop off and fix that step first. A full redesign makes sense when the theme itself is slow or when the brand has outgrown it. If you're thinking of changing platform altogether, compare Shopify and WooCommerce first.
